This project was not only difficult and straining but fun. How often do you get to walk around a major league baseball field when no one is there, we did for about a month. First we had to do the fiber optic networking for the building and we were assisted by the Maintenance Operation manager for Chase Field. The wiring took most of the time due the age of the stadium, but after that was completed the fun began. We had custom made shrouds (covers) that went over the Plasmas. These shrouds were made for the Sony Plasma to be protected from the environment. The reason behind what they call Digital Signage is to display worldwide ads for companies. Yahoo, the Weather and the Army were the first to go up on these displays. There are many to come and so many endless possibilities to advertise this way. Next time you are waiting in line for a hotdog and a Coke check out the work we have done for your enjoyment, and to keep the world updated on activities throughout our nation. All of the Plasmas; a total of 62, were placed vertically for a poster like view. Now for the most important part of the install; the content, how did it play on all the Plasmas at once or even play different content at the same time? This is where the art of Technology comes into play. We had a part with a media company that made the Digital Signage content perfect for viewers. We started off using a fiber backbone system throughout the baseball field, then from the fiber we used CAT5e to convert the signage to the Plasmas, from there the content was pumped into a mini media server that would store the content to a hard drive or flash drive and in return play the content on the plasma. In the head end we used, a media server, which could hold the content and play in specific areas remotely through an internet connection. This was all controlled by a simple DSL line. The media company would download the content before each game and test it remotely. We also designed the same application with Staples Center in LA, The Dodgers Stadium in LA, and Pet Co. Park in San Diego.
The Time it took for this project was about 2 months of hard work and a additional 30 days for programming and testing the system to make sure things worked proficiently. We had 3 to 5 men onsite for about 12 to 15 hrs a day due to Baseball season coming. The Integration is all about the people behind the curtains, each of the Installers and how they made this project complete for the owner of the Diamond Backs. Dale Jensen was very impressed with our work he gave us tickets to game that night after we finished our work. Now that’s a reward for good hard work and outstanding Customer Service.
